Helping Hands

Kington Langley Helping Hands

'Formed in 1972 by a group of people meeting in the local Hit or Miss Public House. The reasonfor setting up the organisation was to raise funds to create some social events/support for thre people in the village. The first fundraising was held with a raffle and a sponsored walk. This was enough to provide a tea of sandwiches and cake for the first few years.

As the years have gone by, the fundraising events have increased and have now reached the stage of a grand Xmas dinner Party. (We prepare and cook a three course dinner, drinks  presents and crackers, we also try to get some form of entertainment.) And now we also provide a summer outing. (This is usually a mystery tour, or sometimes a boat trip).

In the year we usually have Two jumble sales. Two coffee mornings a table top sale whist drive BBQ and a bingo night, plus sometimes we do a car boot sale, and anything else we can get in on to make a bit of cash.

We decorate the village hall at Xmas too. I must admit I personally get a bit carried away with this as it brings out the artistic touch in me. The others think I am a bit loopy when I tell them what they need to start collecting or start making towards the next years theme. So we are always planning ahead.

Our partners and friends are very generous with help when we need it, but we could do with a couple of young gentlemen on the committee if anyone is willing to volunteer.

Generally we are quite a happy bunch and try to enjoy whatever the event is we are doing.
