Parking On The Commons For Special Events
If you live close to one of the village
Commons and are expecting large numbers of visitors for a party or
special event, please contact the Parish Council. We will normally
grant special permission for parking on the Commons and give you
guidance that will help ensure safe circumstances for your
visitors and other road users.
One final request, please don’t cut the
grass on the larger Commons areas for parking. Our regular grass
cutting programme aims to maintain the Commons as grazing land,
and not as a garden lawn.
Thank
you.
Peter
Hart for Kington Langley Parish Council.

Chairman’s Report –2007/8 - Cllr. Dr. Maurice Dixson
2007 Parish Election and
Councillors: Last year was the 4-yearly District & Parish Council
election and as only 9 villagers put their names forward for election,
all were elected unopposed. Mrs. Lynn Atwell and Revd. John Schofield
resigned in December and as no election was requested, two villagers
were co-opted onto the Council in February: Chris Timbrell and myself.
Cllr. Hart resigned as Chairman in January and I was elected as
Chairman on 10th March.
I would like to commend Cllr.
Hart on the projects that have been successfully completed over the
past 3½ years, namely erecting a bus-shelter outside the Hit or Miss;
achieving a 40 mph speed limit through the double bends by the
Greathouse and a reduction in speed from the dual-carriageway traffic
lights up Plough Hill from 40 to 30; establishing a Kington Langley
website and undertaking the first phase of the Commons Erosion
project, resulting in grass reinforcement and kerbing outside Langley
Fitzurse School. Cllr. Hart has also managed the second phase to the
point where villagers’ Promises have reached the target figure needed
to enable us to now apply for Area 3 funding. I am pleased to add that
Cllr. Hart is ‘championing’ this project as a continuing member of the
Parish Council
Finances: Turning to
finances, last year’s precept has been managed within budget with some
surplus which went towards paying an extra £1,000 off the Footpath
loan. The precept will also be maintained at the same level for the
next financial year.
Parish Projects: Major
achievements in 2007 have been the speed limit reductions, the first
phase of the Commons Erosion Project and attention to village
maintenance which has resulted in renovation of all village benches
plus provision of hard-standings to prolong their future life. 2008
will see the next stage of dealing with Middle Common erosion plus a
campaign to downgrade Byway 34 to prevent vehicular access, which will
be led by Cllr. John Foster.
Looking to the Future:
Wiltshire is changing to a Unitary Council and the Parishes await news
as to how this will affect us. I hope we shall see greater delegated
opportunities for Parish Council action in place of the District
Council when the Unitary Authority is established and that the County
will not simply centralise everything.

Current Projects
Long term challenges for the village include :-
-
Resolving the parking problem at the school.
-
Protecting the commons from erosion by traffic.
-
Resurfacing Church Lane, and adding a footpath.
-
Making the bend around St Peter Church safer for pedestrians.
