Change of Officers:
Owing to commencing a new job and the subsequent increase in his
business commitments and travelling, Simon Harris has had to
resign from the Committee. We thank him for his service and wish
him well for the future.
Keith Burton has volunteered to take Simon's place as Tennis
Representative. We welcome him aboard and look forward to his
contribution. His proven commitment to village affairs and, in
particular, to the young, will be of immense value to the Playing
Fields Committee.
Use of Playing Fields:
The Playing Fields continue to be used regularly by the various
sporting groups mentioned above as well as by the staff and
children of the Village School.
Additional income has been earned this last year by permitting
some non-village organisations and private groups to hire the
fields for private events. We hope to attract similar groups this
current year. In particular, we are canvassing local sporting
groups who may wish to hire our facilities, thereby enhancing our
total income.
We also wish to encourage a greater use of our facilities by
villagers throughout the year. To this end, Alistair Mathewson
(our Cricket Representative) hopes to arrange a couple of
'20-Over' Cricket Matches between teams drawn from the village and
friends during the summer. Could be fun: Pimms, cucumber
sandwiches, a balmy summer's evening, and a little cricket thrown
in!!
A
proposal was made last year by two of our young villagers: Alex
Trickey and Tristan Dunsford, for a BMX Cycle Track to be provided
by the KLPFA within the field area.
After detailed consideration of their very well prepared proposal
and substantial enquiries to the Local Authority, our Insurers,
the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (ROSPA), and
NPFA Rules, together with the cost of building the track to
satisfy these rules, regrettably it was not possible for our
Committee to support the project. We informed Alex and Tristan of
the reasons for our decision by letter, but stated our admiration
for the way in which they had made their application.
Maintenance and Improvements:
Maintenance of the Pavilion, Children's Play Area and our Fields
generally, has continued this year within the budget available.
The drainage problems, which resulted in the cancellation of a
number of football matches and subsequent loss of income during
the Season 2005/2006, mentioned in last year's report, have been
addressed. New drainage pipes were laid during the summer of 2006
at a cost of £1,300. This money was raised as shown below:
i) £650
– Grant Award by North Wiltshire District Council
ii) £650
– From proceeds of Race Night held at the Village Hall on Sat. 19
Nov 2005
I
am happy to report that, in spite of heavy rainfall during the
2006/2007 Football Season, not one match has had to be cancelled.
A worthwhile and successful project funded equally by a helpful
Local Authority and the deep pockets of the villagers. Thank you
all.
Pavilion:
The Changing Pavilion was built more than thirty years ago and is
showing signs of age and use. We are approaching a time when the
necessary replacements of shower facilities, power supply and
general refurbishment have to be seriously considered. The cost
will be substantial. We have to consider whether money should be
spent on large scale refurbishment or whether we commence a
project to build a new pavilion/changing room facility, which will
require substantial fund-raising from the community and
application for grants from the Local Authority, Sports Council
and elsewhere.
Before making this decision we will consult all the village
households, Parish Council and the Village Hall Management
Committee. If the results of the consultation exercise are that a
new pavilion should be built, then a Project Group would be formed
to prepare the submission of plans, etc., the raising of capital
and/or revenue grants, and to oversee the project. This Project
Group would be responsible for the overall management of the
undertaking and answerable to the Parish Council.
The composition of this group will be left until the results of
the consultation are known. If the-view of the village community
is that we should go ahead, then we will be looking for help from
any villagers who have expertise in this area, to join or assist
the Project Group. In the meantime, normal repairs and
maintenance will continue on the existing pavilion.
Vandalism:
I
am glad to report that we have had no serious vandalism this year.
The only incident of note was the appearance of a "phantom
graffiti” on the storage container situated in the south-west
corner of the field. The offending graffiti was quickly painted
over, with minimal expense to KLPFA.
Financial Status and Fund-Raising Events:
A
copy of the most recent Audited Accounts, plus the previous year
for comparison, is submitted with this Report. At present we have
a balance of: £3,205.17.
KLPFA are organising a 'Race Night' to be held on Sat. 19th
May 2007 (Scarecrow Weekend) also a 'Ceilidh' (Celtic Knees-Up) on
Sat. 29th Sept.2007, both at the Village Hall, to raise
funds so that we can keep a healthy balance to deal with the
inevitable contingencies that occur and to fund our efforts to
encourage village sport in general.
