EROSION OF COMMONS

Cllr. Euan Sudbury updated the Council on a product he had been investigating to provide a green lay-by called Grasscrete. He suggested that an area approximately 1.5 metres wide should be laid with this material, on the same side of the road as the Village School, the initial distance considered being from the end of Church Farm to the beginning of Sedgebrook. A map outlining the possible area was shown to Councillors.

Cllr. Sudbury agreed to get two other quotes and also to pursue the costs of the Grasscrete solution, including considering the next stretch of road edge from Sedgebrook to approximately Lime Tree Mews. Cllr. Sudbury also agreed to obtain quotes for installation and to establish when would be the best time for laying the surface. Some funding was being set aside from the 2005/6 Precept. Cllr. Sudbury and the Clerk were asked to investigate possible matched funding from the Area 3 Committee.

It was also suggested that once this work was completed an undertaking should be sought from the school to ensure that parents did not park on the opposite side of the road on Middle Common and also to ensure that the edges were not used as an all day car park. Cllr. Sudbury agreed to write an initial article for the Village Magazine.

The Clerk was asked to investigate whether this would affect the current insurance policy.
