St. Peter’s Church
This Church
was dedicated 150 years ago in the centre of the village.
Until that date villagers from Kington Langley were part of the
part of the parish of Kington St Michael. There is still a
path through the village called The Coffin Way leading to Kington
St. Michael.
This
Victorian Church is Listed Grade 2 and it has recently had its
roof renewed. The churchyard houses the village War Memorial
and is the village graveyard.
St. Peter’s
is now part of the Benefice of Draycot – it shares a vicar with
the churches of Sutton Benger, Christian Malford, Tytherton
Kellaways and the redundant church of St. James, Draycot Cerne,
where services are held annually.

Draycot Benefice Ministry Team Letter
Dear Friends
Can you imaging
living in a time continuum, - no demarcation of days, months or
seasons? I wonder if our brains could accept that situation.
Fortunately nature takes a hand, the sun, the moon and the
turnings of our world are all natural breakers. It gives us a
sense of reliability and security.
January brings the
snow, March the breezes loud and shrill, and so on. We use these
rhymes even if the weather doesn't oblige but security of some
breaks in that time continuum is what we crave.
We have celebrated
the service of those who gave their lives that we may live with a
greater sense of security. We pay out enormous sums of money in
insurance premiums to help us feel safer – a very basic need.
We need the friendship of
others giving us security in our everyday life, and the knowledge
that we have one who is with us always and loves us
unconditionally.
So let us pray for
peace and security in our finances, and our everyday relationships
in this next marker in the continuum of time – 2012.
Happy and secure New Year.
Audrey.

DRAYCOT BENEFICE –
SERVICES FOR JANUARY
PLEASE NOTE that
there are two Joint Benefice Services in January: on the First and
Fifth Sundays. The latter was anticipated. However, we reckoned
that New Year’s Day was an unpromising date for well-attended
services all round; so come and join us in St Peter’s for an
all-age service which will also include Communion.
FROM THE REGISTERS
Holy Baptism
Eleonora Ljungman of Manor Farm Upper Seagry was baptized on 20
November in St Mary’s. Two brothers were baptized in St Peter’s on
27 November: Matthew and Nathaniel Vinson. They are the grandsons
of Evelyn Jones, a regular choir member in St Peter’s, and the
sons of John and Rebecca Vinson who were married there a few years
ago. In All Saints, Sutton Benger Peter George Furneaux was
baptized on 4 December before he took up his duties as godparent
to Alice Mary Collier Marsh of the Coach House, Seagry Road who
was baptized at the same service. A warm welcome to some of the
latest Christians!
R.I.P.
The funeral and memorial service of Ted Poole of Moors Close,
Kington Langley took place at Semington and St Peter’s on 2
December. Our thoughts and prayers are with his widow Peggy and
all the family. May he rest in peace and rise in glory.
NEWS from SEAGRY SCHOOL
AND CHURCH
‘THE SLEEPY SHEPHERD’ : In
December Key Stage 1 and Seagry Pre-School delighted two audiences
at their performances of ‘The Sleepy Shepherd’. We would like to
congratulate the children on their speaking, acting and singing
prowess and we hope that parents, friends and relations enjoyed
watching them, as much as the children obviously enjoyed
entertaining everyone. Well done!! We would also like to say a
big THANK YOU to Mrs. Hird and her daughter Phoebe, for painting
the really lovely backdrop for our production.
CHRISTMAS SCHOOL CAROL
SERVICE IN ST MARY’S.
The end of term Carol Service was held on Thursday 15th December
at Lower Seagry Church, starting at 9.15am. The children
presented tableaux, sang carols and pieces from their Christmas
production (see above) and the congregation joined in with a
number of well-known carols. The Revd Geoff Hewitt spoke about
the significance of Advent and led the congregation in prayers.
After the service, all were invited back to the school for coffee
and mince pies.

THE JULIAN MEETINGS
The “Julian Meetings” are
small groups of people who meet in different places throughout the
country to explore Contemplative or Meditative Prayer. The title
is derived from the great English mystic, the Lady Julian of
Norwich.
Our local meeting is held in
St Giles’ Church, Kellaways on the second Sunday evening of each
month at 8.00 p.m. It lasts a little over half an hour and is
open to anyone who would like to join others in learning about and
participating in silent prayer.
After the busyness of
Christmas, learning how to practise stillness may be a good start
to the new year. Further details from Geoff Hewitt or any other
member of the group

Christian Malford.
