CHURCH SCHOOLS INSPECTION
On 25th January Mrs Margaret James from the Diocese
of Bristol spent the day in school to undertake our Statutory
Inspection of Anglican Schools (SIAS). She observed two RE lessons
and an Open Worship session, and spent a lot of time talking to
key stakeholders. She was particularly impressed with the children
who took her on a Learning Walk around the school, especially when
they produced a list they had prepared to make sure she didn’t
miss anything! The relationships across the school came out very
strongly, and the overall ‘good’ judgement accurately reflects all
that the school is about. In fact, Mrs James in her verbal
feedback to senior leaders and governors made it quite clear that
the school was not far from ‘outstanding’ in all three areas
inspected. We should be proud of the fact that our school’s
Christian ethos is embedded in all that we do, and is clearly
important to the whole school community.
NEW STARTERS 2011
For those of you who have youngsters due to start
school in September 2011, information will be coming out to you
soon about your child’s induction sessions. Following government
legislation, from September all children are able to start school
full time, and the governors will be agreeing any changes to our
current induction process to meet this need. As always, there will
be an induction tea for all parents of new children with myself
and Mrs Hutchins, Early Years leader, when we talk through
everything you need to know about your child starting school.
Children due to start at our school in September
are welcome to join in our annual Easter Egg Hunt in the
playground at 3pm on Thursday 7 April. See you there!
PROGRESS IN MATHS
Maths is very much at the forefront of our school
improvement, both for this year and next year. The most recent
pupil assessments, undertaken in February, show pleasing progress,
with most pupils on track to meet their personal targets by the
end of the year. The introduction of Mathletics online learning in
Key Stage 2 has significantly impacted on children’s confidence
and enjoyment of Maths, and provides a competitive ‘edge’ to raise
pupils’ personal expectations and key Maths skills. In Key Stage
1, the Bear Necessities games are now well established and
regularly planned into lessons. Again, these focus on key skills
which children will build on as they progress through the school.
Staff are continuing to access training, both in house and through
outside providers, to further develop high level teaching skills
so that pupils are both supported and challenged effectively.
